Meet Ms. Roxy. She is about 35lbs, and around 2 years old. She came up from Texas about a month ago and is already spayed and vetted. She is a sweet girl who just wants some love. She was very scared and timid when we first got her, but she is opening up to us and showing some of her sweet side.

Her favorite things:

  • Chew nylon toys and bones

  • Food and treats

  • Scratches on her belly and just pets in general

  • Games of trying to catch her so she can run away and come back

She is a Velcro girl, and she likes to follow you around and lay by your feet so she can get love. When I work from home, she will sleep behind my chair on a dog bed the entire day. Potty training is going very well (she was an outdoor dog full-time prior, so she is learning still) if you keep her on a schedule. We have had 2 accidents total, so it is getting very good but still not perfect.

She is good in her kennel when there overnight or when we go into the office. Sometimes she will have an accident on the longer stays (over 8 hours), but much of the time it is not an issue. This has improved steadily and isn’t a concern since I see her learning.

She is still a bit skittish outside of things that are different or loud. Public places are probably not going to be something in her wheelhouse, but this may change as she learns what life is like in the real world. Loud sounds/dogs barking will have her head to the door right away when we are out in the yard, but she is trying out new things each day, so there is hope she will be over her fear of the unknown at some point. The strides she has made, I can still see it being a possibility, but with patience. She is EXTREMELY treat motivated, so training her shouldn't be much of an issue and positive reinforcement of testing her boundaries could help along the way to getting her used to change.

She is probably going to be an only dog for the foreseeable future. She has stress and fear issues from her past, so having her around other dogs is tough to do. She hasn’t shown any actual aggression, but she does sometimes air snap at her resident dogs if they do get in her area. This isn’t always the case, but she does get scared and doesn’t know how to handle it very well right now. So, if you were looking for the prefect roommate for just you and them, this is your girl.

She should be good with kids, just know it will take her a day or two to get used to any strangers. I have yet to see her show any fear aggression, she normally just lays flat on her belly or backs away when fear of strangers happens. She warms of very fast though, sometimes in about 5 minutes, sometimes a few visits.

She does well in our fenced in yard. She loves to explore and check out all the areas and watch the bunnies. She still needs to work on recall, so I would say she would have to be on leash or a fenced in yard, not just let out free roam to use the bathroom. She does love to run around sometimes, so going outside and just walking around with her gets her pretty excited, and she will run away and run back to you over and over for fun.

Overall, she is a very cute, loving girl who will get very excited and playful. It isn't all the time, but when it happens, it is too cute. She is a good one for someone who wants a smaller dog to keep them company. Her exercise needs are very low (we can't really go for walks due to her fear of the unknown, but it hasn't shown any ill effect on being overexcited or having an attitude if she doesn’t get a ton of exercise). She would be perfect for someone who wants a great dog to hang out with but are not able to walk them daily due to physical limitations.
