Meet Ms. Roxy. She is about 35lbs, and around 2 years old. She came up from Texas a few months back and is already spayed and vetted. She is a sweet girl who just wants some love.
Her favorite things:
Chew nylon toys and bones
Food and treats
Scratches on her belly and just pets in general
Games of trying to catch her so she can run away and come back
Sleeping near you while you do other things
She is a Velcro girl, and she likes to follow you around and lay by your feet so she can get love. When I work from home, she will sleep behind my chair on a dog bed the entire day. Potty training is going very well (she was an outdoor dog full-time prior, so she is learning still) if you keep her on a schedule. We have had 2 accidents total, so it is getting very good, but still not perfect. Adjusting to a new home will also take her some time to figure out the schedule, so patience is required for dogs that were raised outdoors originally.
She is good in her kennel when there overnight or when we go into the office. She can go up to 12 hours without any accidents when we go to the office. She does bile a bit if she goes longer than about 12 hours on eating, so just be aware. We give her a larger treat before we leave to limit this happening. She is very good about holding it while in the kennel, and we have had no accidents in well over 2 months.
She does great in public events so far and is really relaxed in large crowds. She is good with strangers and will be a bit shy, but will open up very fast. She would be a good partner for outdoor deck dining. She is EXTREMELY treat motivated, so training her shouldn't be much of an issue, and positive reinforcement of testing her boundaries could help along the way to getting her used to change.
She has done well with her resident brothers and sisters. She doesn’t really pay much attention to them, and allows them to sniff her, then she goes and sleeps. With slow introductions, she should be good with most other dogs as long as they know to not keep pushing her. She is fine if they sniff her and leave her alone, but she isn’t much of a run around and play type of sibling. She will co-exist just fine though.
She should be good with kids, just know it will take her a few minutes to get used to any strangers. I have yet to see her show any fear aggression, she normally just lays flat on her belly or backs away when fear of strangers happens, but most of the time she just stands there. She warms up very fast though, sometimes in about 5 minutes, sometimes a few visits.
She does well in our fenced in yard. She loves to explore and check out all the areas and watch the bunnies. She still needs to work on recall, so I would say she would have to be on leash or a fenced in yard, not just let out free roam to use the bathroom. She does love to run around sometimes, so going outside and just walking around with her gets her pretty excited, and she will run away and run back to you over and over for fun.
Overall, she is a very cute, loving girl who will get very excited and playful. It isn't all the time, but when it happens, it is too cute. She is a good one for someone who wants a smaller dog to keep them company. Her exercise needs are very low (she does just fine with just normal around the house exercise, walks are not required to tire her out). She would be perfect for someone who wants a great dog to hang out with, but are not able to walk them daily due to physical limitations.
