Meet Ferris (DOB:1/6/2021)
*Professional Snuggler. Loyal Protector. Certified Good Boy.* Ferris has one life motto: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and snuggle, you could miss it."
He takes this responsibility very seriously and would be honored to demonstrate by laying directly on top of you. If you're looking for a dog who loves his people with his entire heart, congratulations. You just found him.
At home, Ferris is affectionate, goofy, loyal, and happiest when he's as close to his humans as physically possible. Personal space? That's just a suggestion. Whether you're watching TV, reading a book, or pretending to work from home, Ferris would like to be involved.
He also considers himself the Director of Home Security. When someone new arrives, he'll make an announcement. It's loud. It's enthusiastic. It's his version of saying, "Excuse me... who are you?" Because of that, first impressions aren't always his strongest skill.
But here's the secret … If you can get through that first minute, you'll discover one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. Your reward? An unlimited supply of face kisses and a best friend who thinks you're the greatest person on Earth. Once Ferris decides you're part of his circle, you're in for life. He adores his people, wants to be wherever they are, and loves with absolutely everything he's got.
Ferris believes every day should include rubber toys, tug-of-war, snacks, and quality time with his favorite humans. He's incredibly food motivated, which makes training a breeze. He already knows tricks like sit, shake, and spin, and he's always excited to show them off if treats are involved. He has excellent house manners, keeps his chewing focused on his own toys, and while he currently enjoys free-roaming his foster mom's house when she's away, he is also comfortably crate trained if that's what works best for your family. He's always ready if someone asks, "Want to play?"
With other animals, Ferris has shown a lot of promise. He has successfully lived with both a cat and a rabbit. That said, we'd recommend slow, thoughtful introductions with any new pets, especially if they aren't dog-savvy, just to set everyone up for success. Ferris is usually much more interested in making a friend than causing trouble. Rabbits and squirrels out on walks, however... those are a different story. In Ferris' mind, they are participating in a very exciting game of chase that they just don't know about yet.
With other dogs, Ferris has done well, especially with thoughtful introductions or in off-leash settings. Walks can still be exciting, and he'll sometimes make sure everyone knows another dog is nearby, but he's making great progress and continues to improve with consistency and guidance.
We also recently learned a little more about Ferris' story. Before coming into rescue, he fractured his pelvis, and it healed a bit crooked. The amazing part? You would never know it watching him. He runs, plays, wrestles, zooms around the yard, and lives every day like it's the best day ever. As he gets older, it's simply something to keep an eye on. He may occasionally benefit from an anti-inflammatory after a particularly active day. Honestly... who among us doesn't?
Ferris isn't looking for a perfect family …. he's looking for *his* family. The one that understands a bark doesn't always mean, "Stay away." Sometimes it just means, "Give me a minute. I haven't met you yet." Give him that minute, and he'll spend the rest of his life proving you made the right decision. Because dogs like Ferris don't just become pets. They become your favorite part of coming home.
