Meet Blue (aka Moose) the Cane Corso. He is about a year old and already 90 pounds. He is a gentle giant.

About Moose: He has an underbite and this brings me so much joy and makes me laugh. At the same time, he is stunning and people who meet him always comment on how handsome he is.

His personality - he is a confident and well-socialized boy. He has shown zero reactivity to people or dogs. He has been out to Home Depot and has done such a good job. He does not get worked up when he sees people. People ask to pet him and I will let them so long as he is a calm and sitting. Because of his size, we work very hard on not jumping up to greet people.

He has good leash manners and walks in near perfect heel position. He requires very little corrections on walks. He does show some excitement when he sees other dogs, but he can easily be redirected and I can put him into a sit. More times than not, he will automatically sit when I stop. When he doesn’t, a gentle “sit” will usually get him to sit without applying leash pressure. Currently we walk with a prong collar and an ecollar (teaching him leash pressure with the ecollar). So he would do good with either. We go for two walks each day. When it’s hotter out, we will limit the walk to about 3/4 of a mile (about 20 minutes).

In his foster home, he has clear defined structure and boundaries. He is only allowed on the couch when he is calm. He does not get to free roam the house. On occasion he may get mouthy when he is stimulated and wants to play, but I immediately tell him to sit and he goes into a sit position. He does follow verbal commands and it’s easy to redirect him when he has bratty behavior. He is very treat motivated and does very well with daily training.

He has met the neighbor children through the fence (6-8 years old and an older teenager) and he will go paws up on the fence and let them pet him. He does well with kids, but because of his size, his adopters should take that into consideration if they have children in the home. He has not shown any signs of aggression but he is a big boy and can easily knock down little ones. He has no concept of his size and with him being 90-pounds at a year old, he will probably grow some more.

Blue’s adopter should have experience with power breeds and also be a strong handler. Knowledge of the breed would also be helpful. Know that he should continue to be socialized and have structure/boundaries as part of his daily life. Help set him up for success.
