What is expected from someone who would like to foster for the rescue?

All items you need to care for your foster dog (crate, food, bowl, leash, collar, etc.) will be provided by UnbreakaBULL Pit Bull Rescue of Minnesota, as well as any vet expenses needed to help get them ready for their furever home. The most important part of the foster parent role is to help get the foster dog in a home environment that assists in training the dog, socialization, and love. Since the foster family will get to know the dog/dogs best, your input in their furever home is vital.

How long is the foster process?

It can range from a couple weeks to a couple months or longer. For example, some dogs have medical concerns that need to be addressed before they are ready for their forever home.

Am I putting my personal animals at risk by agreeing to sign up as a foster home?

Our dogs come from shelter situations, so some of their history may be unknown. We suggest the two week shut down process before introducing the foster dog to the resident animals in the home. We also take care to make sure that the placement is a good match prior to placing a dog in the home.

What if the foster dog does not work with my home environment (other animals/children)?

Please email the Foster Coordinator for tips on ways to make the transition smooth. They are available to help with questions you may have along the way. We do ask that you allow for time to find another foster home if possible.

If I spend money on my foster animal, will I receive reimbursement?

Purchasing items for your foster animal would need to be approved by the rescue prior to purchase. In most instances, we are able to request the supplies from our donator’s or may have what you need in storage waiting for a dog in need. If you choose to purchase your own supplies, you may deduct them from your own taxes. Please ask Sara for a donation receipt.

What if I decide to adopt my foster animal?

We have fosters that end up adopting their foster all the time. We lovingly refer to this as a Foster Fail, and it brings us joy to know that one of our dogs found their forever home regardless of where it is. Once we have an approved application for a dog in foster, we give the foster 72 hours to decide if they want to adopt their current foster or continue with the approved adoption applicant. If the foster decides to keep the dog, we will let the applicant know. If the foster decides to continue with allowing the applicant to adopt, we will proceed with the meet and greet process.
